Patient Care Technician (PCT)
This program is a continuation of the Certified Nursing Assistant class that teaches hands on primary patient care, phlebotomy, EKG, and management of a physician back office. The PCT typically performs venipuncture, processing and management of lab specimen, finger sticks, heel sticks and point of care testing. The PCT can also function as an EKG technician and may perform 12 lead EKG and telemetry monitoring. They may assist with physical exams, holter monitoring, assessment of heart rates and rhythm or stress tests. Patient care technicians are employed in hospitals, physician offices, clinics, labs, or long term care facilities. Upon successful completion of the course the student may be registered to take the NHA CPCT national certification exam at this facility or elsewhere.
